Is This Stupid?: Is This Stupid?: You Heard It Hear First: Bacon Can Be Part of a Healthy Diet

I'm all about turkey bacon. That's healthy

Interestingly, though, 2 slices of Hormel turkey bacon only saves you 30 calories and and 3 grams of fat. Plus, you lose a gram of the protein and it's higher in sodium and cholesterol. Real bacon FTW! =D

I like how turkey bacon cooks so quickly, but you have probably turned me into a real-bacon believer now!

Pan frying bacon takes *forever*. Four slices microwave in three and a half minutes, which isn't bad. Put two paper towels on a plate, then the bacon, then another paper towel. Take the top towel off for the last 30-45 seconds for crispier bacon. NOM!

When I started training for marathons, I read a lot of nutritional advice. One was to follow the 10% rule. Basically, if you make healthy choices 90% of the time, you can enjoy that 10% without guilt or ill effects on your health.

I've always been a "everything in moderation" girl.

At my last check up, my weight, body fat, cholesterol, etc... was all perfectly healthy, so I must be doing something right.

Glad to see that you haven't abandoned the word "asshat" because it might be "going out of style". some words are just good.

Asshat will never go out of style on my watch! And I'm a firm believer in
moderation too. My father likes to say "all things in moderation, including
moderation". Works well enough for me...

Amen, Sister! I will now go forth and consume my bacon guilt free! Um, what about the nitrates and nitrites and all that? Waffling now. Mmmmmmm, waffles.

Good thing I just ate, or you would be making me hungry! As for nitrates,
there are several brands that are nitrate and preservative free. I know
Oscar Meyer makes one that is in most the 'normal' grocery stores around
here. Applewood Farms (I think) also makes a really good nitrate free bacon.
Granted, they cost more, but it's not like you're eating a pound a day,
    right?
